David R. Taggart was born in Midland, Texas in 1951. Mr. Taggart received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1973. Mr. Taggart received his Juris Doctor in 1979 from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University. Mr. Taggart served as the executive editor of the Louisiana Law Review from 1978 to 1979, was inducted into the Order of the Coif in 1979 and was inducted into the Paul M. Herbert Hall of Fame in 1987. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Delta Phi.

He was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 1979 and to the Texas State Bar in 1995. Mr. Taggart is a member of the Bars of the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, the United States Tax Court and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Taggart's areas of practice are class actions & complex litigation, business litigation, construction law, energy, oil & gas, and public utility law, labor & employment law, and oil & gas drilling, completion and workover contractor operations.

Mr. Taggart is a member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association, and the Shreveport Bar Association. In 1992 Mr. Taggart was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Mr. Taggart has served on the Adjunct Faculty at the Shreveport Campus of Louisiana State University, is a frequent seminar leader and speaker and has been an active lecturer in the community.

In 1989 he was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to serve as Judge Pro Tem of the Shreveport City Court and in 1992 served as a faculty member of a law symposium held in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, on a symposium on the American Civil Jury System.

Mr. Taggart is named The Best Lawyers in America® for the areas of commercial litigation, construction law, energy law, labor and employment law, mass tort litigation, and oil & gas law from 2009-2013. Best Lawyers named Mr. Taggart as "Shreveport Best Lawyers Oil & Gas Law Lawyer of the Year"’ for 2013.  He has been honored by Louisiana Super Lawyers® in 2007, 2008, and 2010 for his work in business litigation, business/corporate, and construction/surety.  In 2009, Mr. Taggart was inducted as a fellow in Litigation Counsel of America.

Mr. Taggart practices principally in the areas of business and commercial litigation including construction, oil and gas and regulated public utility matters.
